SAISD Receives Grant From State Classroom Supply Teacher Reimbursement Program

October 2, 2006

San Angelo Independent School District has applied for and received a matching grant award from the State's Classroom Supply Teacher Reimbursement program. School districts participating under the program must match any funds provided with an equal amount of local funds to be used for the same purpose. The State is giving SAISD an award of $40,000 which the district will match, for a total of $80,000. A total of $5,000,000 is available from the State for classroom teachers who expend personal funds on classroom supplies. SAISD classroom teachers will be allowed to request up to $150.00 each as reimbursement for purchasing instructional materials.

Jeff Bright, Assistant Superintendent of Business and Support Services states that "Teachers often spend hundreds of their personal dollars each year on supplies and materials for their students. We are really pleased to have been awarded the funds and offer the opportunity to (in some small way) help our staff."
