Coach Bozarth Gets 500th Win

September 18, 2008

After 22 years of coaching, Central High School girls volleyball coach Connie Bozarth has reached a milestone 500 wins.

Win number 500 came Tuesday night as the Lady Cats swept Odessa Permian in 3 sets 25-21, 25-21, 25-12. Bozarth has 500 career wins and only 202 losses. Bozarth coached in Bronte and Seguin before moving to San Angelo in 1993 to coach at Lake View High School. After 8 years at Lake View, she moved across town to coach at Central High School where she has lead the Lady Cats to a combined record of 93-13 over the past three seasons. The Lady Cats are currently tied with Amarillo High for first place in the district.

Tuesday night's game also marked the annual Rally for a Cure. Each year, Central Volleyball takes on the fight against breast cancer by designating one match as Rally for a Cure night. It is both an opportunity to raise awareness about the devastating disease and also a fundraiser for the fight against cancer. At this year's Rally, teams and coaches dressed in pink, pink balls were used during the match, and fans wearing pink crowded the gym. The team also had honorary coaches for the night, all of whom are breast cancer survivors. Pink Rally for a Cure t-shirts were on sale and all proceeds from the t-shirt sales and concession stand went to the local American Cancer Society Association. At this year's event, the team raised a total of $4,700.
