Summer School Information

High School Summer School

Dates/Times:

  • 1st Semester - June 8 - 19, 2009 - 7:30 a.m. - 2:30 p.m.
  • 2nd Semester - June 22 - July 2, 2009 - 7:30 a.m. - 2:30 p.m.

Site: Central High School, Ron Carroll - Principal

Eligibility Criteria:

  • Students who need remediation (due to failure of course or TAKS/TAAS Test)
  • Students who do not need remediation and wish to earn acceleration credit

Remedial Courses Offered: English I, II, III, & IV, World Geography, US History, World History, Government/Economics, Algebra I & II, Geometry, Mathematical Models, Biology

Acceleration Courses Offered: Health (1 Semester), Speech (1 Semester), BCIS (2 Semesters), Foundations of P.E. (2 Semesters), Spanish I (2 Semesters)

Costs:

  • At-Risk Students (Blue Card) - $25.00/semester
  • Non-At-Risk Students - $50.00/semester
  • Out-of-District Students - $75.00/semester
  • Cash or money orders only - no personal checks

Additional Information:

  • Summer school registration - June 5, 2009 / 12 noon - 4:00 p.m. Registration will be held at Central, Lake View, and Central Freshman Campus; Please register at your home campus.
  • There must be at least 12 students enrolled in a class in order for that subject to be taught.
  • Summer school semester will average with final year average to give a course average.
  • Students can take one semester for courses if needed.
  • Carver students are allowed to attend Summer School
  • No transportation will be provided for high school Summer School.
  • A free lunch will be served to anyone under 18 as part of the SAISD Summer Meal Program.
  • Summer School graduation - July 2, 2009, 1:00 p.m.

Middle School Summer School

Dates/Times:

  • June 8 - July 2, 2009
  • 8:00 a.m. - 12:30 p.m.

Site: Glenn Middle School, Jay Law - Principal

Eligibility Criteria:

  • Summer School is for remedial purposes only.
  • Qualifications for Middle School Summer School is the failure of at least one of the four core courses.

Courses Offered: Language Arts, Math, Social Studies, Science, 8th Grade TAKS Reading, 8th Grade TAKS Math

Costs:

  • At-Risk Students (Blue Card) - $25.00/semester
  • Out-of-District Students - $75.00/ semester
  • There will be no fee for students attending TAKS classes
  • Cash or money orders only - no personal checks
  • Scholarships are available to pay ½ of tuition. Students must pay the first ½. Home campuses will determine the students who will qualify.

Additional Information:

  • Carver students are allowed to attend Summer School.
  • Transportation will be provided from the student's home campus to the Summer School site. Please contact your child's home campus for departure/arrival times and locations.
  • Grade reports will be sent home the last day of Summer School.

Elementary Summer School

Dates/Times:

  • June 4 - July 1, 2009
  • 1st - 5th grades / 8:00 a.m. - 11:30 a.m.
  • ESY Summer Program for Special Education 8:00a.m. - 11:30 a.m.
  • K - 1st Bilingual / 8:00 a.m. - 2:00 p.m.
  • 3rd & 5th TAKS / 8:00 a.m. - 11:30 a.m. (Reading or Math)
  • 5th TAKS / 8:00 a.m. - 2:00 p.m. (Reading and Math)

Site: Austin Elementary, Kim Bowie - Principal
Campuses and Programs: Austin, Fannin, 3rd & 5th grade TAKS

Site: Crockett Elementary, Heidi Wierzowiecki - Principal
Campuses and Programs: Alta Loma, Bonham, Bowie, Crockett, Lamar, McGill, Santa Rita

Site: Reagan Elementary, Raquel Taunton - Principal
Campuses and Programs: Bradford, Goliad, Holiman, Reagan, PPCD, Bilingual K-1, Specialized Instruction

Site: San Jacinto Elementary, Mary McGann - Principal
Campuses and Programs: Belaire, Glenmore, Fort Concho, San Jacinto, Specialized Instruction

Additional Information:

  • Carver students are allowed to attend Summer School.
  • Transportation provided from the home campus to the Summer School sites, as well as Rio Vista, Boys and Girls Club, and Blackshear (in front of building)
  • Grade reports will be sent home the last day of Summer School.
  • Breakfast and Lunch will be provided at all elementary summer school sites at no cost to students.

TAAS/TAKS Exit Level Remediation Classes

Dates/Times:

  • June 15 - July 16, 2009, Monday thru Thursday
  • 7:30 a.m. - 2:30 p.m.

Site: Central High School, Ron Carroll - Principal

Courses Offered: TAAS/TAKS Exit Level remediation classes will be offered for those students who have not mastered the TAAS/TAKS in order to graduate.

  • ELA (TAAS/TAKS)
  • Math (TAAS/TAKS)
  • Science (TAKS)
  • Social Studies (TAKS)

Costs: There is no fee for these classes.
