Bond Progress Report - 1/7/2010
January 7, 2010
Santa Rita Project:
Phase 1A and 1B (north wing) are complete except for a few minor items they are still working on. Students and teachers moved back into these rooms and are very pleased with the new look. We completed abatement in Phase 2 (six classrooms in the south wing) and work has begun in this area and is scheduled between January 4 and March 12, 2010. If you have an opportunity, I would encourage you to go by and look at the work that has been completed. It really does look nice. We are getting pricing at this time to carry the same look to the back building and will wait and see what the cost will be to put in new flooring and wall panels in that wing.
Dirt work and pier holes are complete and grade beams are being poured at this time. We may experience some delays with the cold weather but the project is coming along at this time.
Excavation has started at Lee this week. The new electrical transformer is in place and all of the conversions have been made to be ready for the construction. Abatement is complete under the building. Templeton will fence the band hall and weight room additions in the next week so dirt work can continue on those pads when the classroom addition is completed.
Mid-Tex of Midland has given us a Guaranteed Maximum Price on Goliad. The approved price is $8,227,964. Our original estimate for this project was $8,305,000. We are pleased with this bid and the alternates we were able to accept. Work will begin this month on moving the play slab and getting fencing and job trailer in place.
San Jacinto Project:
Plans should be ready for bids to be released January 15 with construction to start in April.
The first phase of this project was broken into a smaller bid packet and includes the new WTTC shops and new HVAC in both gyms with construction to begin immediately after GMP approval on the WTTC shops that include Auto Tech, Auto Body, Building Trades and 2 classrooms for Howard College. This building is to be completed prior to school starting in August of 2010. The new HVAC systems will be completed during the summer. We will have a GMP for this phase at the January board meeting. Phase 2 will be issued in the next week and will include the new administration/science/classroom wing and the new Ag/Building Maintenance shops on campus. I am anticipating a GMP on Phase 2 in February. Construction on the campus will begin in July of 2010 after abatement and demolition of Emerson Hall. Phase 3 will be several months later and will include the rest of the renovations.
We are working on the design phase for this project. Meetings continue with the principal and architect to refine a scope of work and develop preliminary drawings. We issued a Request For Proposal on the Construction Manager At-Risk for Crockett and received 9 responses. We will have a recommendation ready for the Board in January. GMP for this project should be ready for approval in April.
Kinney Architects has begun some preliminary work on Glenmore. We will begin our design phase meetings in January. I will issue a Request for Proposal for the construction manager at risk in January and hope to make an award no later than March. I am anticipating a GMP for Glenmore in May.
