Bond Progress Report - 4/8/2010

April 8, 2010

Santa Rita Project:

Phase 2 is complete except for the computer labs. They should be completed in the next two weeks. Phase 3 asbestos abatement was completed during Spring Break and demolition is well underway for that area. The Board approved a $300,000 change order to carry the same look to the back building, to correct drainage issues and add other improvements to the campus. This change is made possible through the good work of the design staff and contractor saving us money. Even with the change, we are still about $40,000 under budget. We are about 65% complete on this project.

Holiman Project:

Steel erection is underway at Holiman. The kitchen and cafeteria have the structural steel in place as well as the metal studs, window openings and some of the heating and cooling curbs. Work continues on the next phase of the slab and should be ready to pour in the next two weeks. Preparations are being made for the expansion of the library that will take place over the summer. We are about 25% complete on this project.

Lee Project:

The slab for the new instructional/library wing was poured last week. Structural steel will begin going up in this area on April 8. The pads are almost ready for the new band hall and weight room. We will have to reroute the sewer for the band hall and weight room. Grade beams are being excavated at the band hall and we hope to pour the slab in this area in about two weeks. We are about 20% complete on the project.

Goliad Project:

The play slab has been poured and should be ready in the next two weeks. Backfill has started on the new building and final excavation is underway. Sewer, water, and electrical lines have been relocated. It is good to see activity on the site.

San Jacinto Project:

Templeton Construction was awarded the bid for San Jacinto with a bid amount of $5,750,000. This is below our original construction estimate by about $500,000. We had nine contractors submit bids. I anticipate a starting date of around May 1.

Central Project:

Phase 2 of Central was approved last night with a price of $21,600,476.00. We will begin on this phase as soon as school is out. Asbestos abatement at Emerson Hall will occur first followed by demolition of the building. Construction should begin on the ag/building maintenance building in the next two weeks and on the new science/administration building in July. We are still under our estimated budget for the project.

Crockett Project:

We are well into the design phase for this project. Templeton Construction has been approved as the construction manager at risk for this project. GMP for this project should be ready for approval in May/June with construction to begin in July/August. We will be adding 12 new classrooms, a computer lab, and a new library as well as remodeling the older areas.

Glenmore Project:

Kinney Franke Architects has begun preliminary work on Glenmore. MidTex of Midland is the construction manager on the project and is reviewing cost estimates to assist us in determining whether to renovate or build new on the site. We are studying the possibility of building a new classroom wing and new cafeteria as compared to the cost of remodeling due to the extent of remodeling needed.
