Key Club Members Attend International Convention

July 22, 2010

Two Central High School Key Club members participated in the annual Key Club International Convention July 6-11 in Memphis, Tennessee. CHS Key Club President Katie Findlay and Secretary Katherine Lauer represented the local organization at the convention. Mr. Rudy Barron attended as Region 5 advisor.

During the convention, all Key Club members had opportunities to participate in work-shops to develop and improve ideas for projects, including the March of Dimes, Operation Smile, UNICEF, Friend a Gorilla, Children's Miracle Network, and Yell and Tell. Delegates from all over the world selected the new international president, vice president, and trustees. They also had the opportunity to vote on amendments in the Key Club Bylaws. Key Club members heard motivational speeches from Bo Shafer (past Kiwanis International president), Jason Stewart (Circle K International President), Clay Aiken (UNICEF ambassador), Simon Curtis (Friend a Gorilla Wildlife Conservation representative), and Sylvester Neal (2010-11 Kiwanis President).

The Central High School Key Club brought home two awards. The scrapbook, prepared by Jordan Hunt, won first place internationally. The club also was named a Diamond Level Club.

Congratulations, CHS Key Club!
