SAISD Revises Student Code of Conduct and Student/Parent Handbook

August 6, 2010

San Angelo ISD parents and students should notice important changes to both the Student Code of Conduct and the Student/Parent Handbook for the 2010-2011 school year.

Dress Code

Regarding the student dress code, SAISD secondary schools have noteworthy changes. The following statement will be enforced at all middle schools and high schools: Holes and/or shredding on jeans, pants, etc. are not permitted above the skirts or shorts length guideline. That is the only dress code change for high schools. Middle schools have added the following statements: Any attire related to negative group behavior (gangs, etc) will not be permitted. Students' hair will be clean and well-groomed at all times and shall not obstruct vision.
The dress code for elementary students has not changed.

Technology

Changes involving the use of technology have been added to the Student Code of Conduct and will apply to students in all grades. The offense of "unauthorized videotaping/photography/recording of any kind" includes this information: Students shall not photograph and /or record the image or voice of another without the prior consent of the individual(s) being recorded and/or photographed. Students are further prohibited from recording or photographing in any way that invades the privacy of others or disrupts the educational environment.

With regard to the offense of "inappropriate use of technology," part of the definition includes: "Students are prohibited from sending or posting electronic messages that are abusive, obscene, sexually oriented, threatening, harassing, damaging to another's reputation or illegal. This prohibition will also apply to CONDUCT OFF SCHOOL PROPERTY if it results in a SUBSTANTIAL DISRUPTION TO THE EDUCATIONAL ENVIRONMENT."

The entire definition for "inappropriate use of technology," as well as the complete Code of Conduct and the Student/Parent Handbook, is available on-line.
