CHS Teacher Receives Educator Excellence Award

Central High School Culinary Arts teacher Gayle Bickel has won the first ever Educator Excellence Award from the Texas Restaurant Association Education Foundation (TRAEF). Mrs. Bickel has taught Culinary Arts at CHS for the past eleven years, where her students have won numerous awards including scholarships to the nation's most prestigious culinary schools. As the winner of the Educator Excellence Award, Mrs. Bickel will receive $1,000 for groceries for the CHS Culinary Arts kitchen, $1,000 for new equipment for the kitchen, and a $1,000 cash award for herself. She will also have the opportunity to take a course at a culinary college and will attend the state culinary educators' training conference in Austin, courtesy of TRAEF. She will be honored at the Texas Restaurant Association Presidential Gala later this month at the Fairmont Hotel in Dallas.
