SAISD Institutes New Substitute Teacher Procedure

Effective immediately, SAISD has instituted a new process for those wishing to become substitute teachers. All new substitute teacher candidates will need to go through the on-line employment process, which will require completing an application and providing a valid email address. Those who were substitute teachers during the 2010-2011 school year must update their existing applications and also provide a valid email address.
All individuals interested in becoming a substitute teacher for SAISD must meet the following qualifications:
- 48 or more semester hours from an accredited college or university or a valid Texas teaching certificate
- Attend a substitute orientation session
- Pass a Criminal Background Check
Substitute teachers are paid according to the following guidelines:
Certified Teacher - $80 full day / $40 half day
Non-Certified - $60 full day / $30 half day
Long-term assignments for more than 10 consecutive days:
Certified - $130.00 day
Non-Certified - $100.00 day
Applications are being accepted now through July 20, 2011. All applications will be reviewed and qualified candidates will be notified via email to attend a scheduled orientation session. A minimum of two weeks should be allowed for applications to be processed.
