San Angelo Schools Foundation Awards Teacher Grants
November 16, 2012
On Wednesday, November 14, the San Angelo Schools Foundation visited 17 SAISD campuses to present their annual Grants to Teachers awards. The Schools Foundation awarded almost $20,000 in grant money to 36 surprised teachers and, for the first time, gave five campus awards.
The Schools Foundation grants were open to all SAISD teachers. Each applicant was asked to brainstorm a project showing innovation and creativity, which would expand and enhance classroom learning for the teacher's subject or grade level. Elementary grants included such requests as iPads, Orff instruments, Rekenrek Math, and Tumblebooks, while secondary grants included Kindles, iPod Touches, and a portrait studio, to list just a few.
Over the years, the Schools Foundation has awarded approximately $300,000 in grants to San Angelo ISD teachers. This spring, the Schools Foundation will present several thousand dollars in scholarship money to deserving students seeking assistance in reaching their higher education goals.
