DESK Donates Record Amount of Money for School Supplies

August 16, 2013

The DESK organization, now in its tenth year, has surpassed the donations of all previous years with this year's donation total of $70,042. DESK, which stands for Donate Educational Supplies to Kids, was founded in 2004 by local resident Eric Wilson, who saw the need to assist SAISD students in obtaining school supplies. Since then, the organization has raised funds in excess of $437,700 for the purpose of meeting the needs of those in the school district who are unable to purchase supplies for the school year.

Each campus in the district receives a percentage of the total amount of money raised based on the number of students who receive assistance through the free and reduced meal program. At the annual DESK luncheon each August, campus administrators are presented their funds so that supplies may be purchased before the school year begins.

The DESK Board of Directors is comprised of a group of local business people who volunteer in fundraising efforts. They include Eric Wilson, McDonalds, President; Vicki Loso, 1st Community Federal Credit Union, Vice President; Andra Moses, McDonalds, Secretary; Jacklyn Ochoa, Armstrong Backus & Co, Treasurer; and board members Cheryl Book, 1st Community Federal Credit Union; Rudy and Bea Barron, CHS Key Club; Boomer Kingston, Townsquare Media; Johnny Garcia, Sam's Club; David Wagner, KLST; David Osherow, Dr. Pepper; Sandy Rojas, San Angelo Standard-Times; and Ella Nichols, SAISD.

San Angelo ISD extends sincere appreciation to the DESK Board for their dedication, year after year, in making a difference for our students.
