Orchestra Wins 30th Consecutive Sweepstakes

March 25, 2014

Central High School orchestra director David Phillips recently attained a stellar accomplishment equaled by few in his career field. Under Phillips' direction, the Central High Varsity Orchestra received its 30th consecutive Sweepstakes award in UIL competition. The coveted Sweepstakes designation indicates the highest rating from judges in both concert performance and sight-reading.  Each of six adjudicators gave the orchestra Division 1 scores.

Mr. Phillips, a native San Angeloan, is a graduate of Central High School and Angelo State University. He has directed the CHS orchestra for 34 years. He is married to Terrie Phillips and they are the parents of two daughters, Christiana and Brandie and grandparents of Abigail.

Congratulations, Mr. Phillips!
