DESK Donates Over $59,000 for School Supplies
September 6, 2016
The DESK organization, now in its twelfth year, has presented SAISD with funds for the 2016-2017 school year in the amount of $59,048.73. DESK, which stands for Donate Educational Supplies to Kids, was founded by local resident Eric Wilson, who saw the need to assist SAISD students in obtaining school supplies. Since then, the organization has raised funds in excess of $537,000 for the purpose of meeting the needs of those in the school district who are unable to purchase supplies for the school year.
Each campus in the district receives a percentage of the total amount of money raised based on the number of students who receive assistance through the free and reduced meal program. At the annual DESK presentation each August, campus administrators are given their funds so that supplies may be purchased before the school year begins.
The DESK Board of Directors is comprised of a group of local business people who volunteer in fundraising efforts. They include Eric Wilson, McDonalds, President; Vicki Loso, 1st Community Federal Credit Union, Vice President; Diane Wilson, Fed-Ex Ground, Secretary; Jacklyn Ochoa, Armstrong Backus & Co, Treasurer; and board members Cheryl Book, 1st Community Federal Credit Union; Elizabeth Jost and Kathy Self, CHS Key Club; Boomer Kingston, Townsquare Media; Andy Maier, Sam's Club; David Wagner, KLST & KSAN; Ken Grimm, San Angelo Standard Times, and Ella Nichols, SAISD.
San Angelo ISD extends sincere appreciation to the DESK Board for their dedication, year after year, in making a difference for our students.
