SAISD Students Receive National Merit Recognition
October 3, 2012
Eight SAISD students have received recognition from the National Merit Scholarship Corporation.
Seniors Elizabeth Blose and Allison Gardella have been named National Merit Semi-finalists in the 58th annual National Merit Scholarship Program. These academically talented students have the opportunity to continue in the competition for some 8,300 National Merit Scholarships worth over $32 million that will be offered next spring. The nationwide pool of Semi-finalists, which includes less than 1% of U.S. high school seniors, represent those who scored the highest on the 2011 preliminary SAT (PSAT).
Six students have been named National Merit Commended Students. Erin Brewer, Jamie Carriker, Nicholas Evans, Elijah McLaughlin, Kaleb Pereira, and Jacob Whitaker placed in the top 5% nationwide of more than 1.5 million students who took the National Merit Scholarship qualifying test, which is the preliminary SAT (PSAT), last year as high school juniors. These students will receive National Merit Letters of Commendation from their high school principals.
Kaleb Pereira, a Commended Student, is also a Semi-finalist in the 49th annual National Achievement Scholarship Program for Black American high school seniors. Kaleb will be in competition for 800 Achievement Scholarship awards worth more than $2.5 million that will be offered next spring. He was among the highest scoring entrants on the 2011 preliminary SAT (PSAT) in his geographic region.
