SAISD Volunteers In Public Schools (VIPS)
San Angelo ISD offers a wide variety of volunteer opportunities to interested adults through the Volunteers in Public Education (VIPS) program. Volunteers truly assist in providing the best possible educational experience for SAISD students. The Public Information Office would like to take this opportunity to welcome and encourage parents and other friends of SAISD to become volunteers. VIPS are truly priceless assets to our school district.
Anyone who is interested in volunteering must be at least 21 years of age and must complete our on-line application. Included in the application is a background check, which is required by school board policy and helps assure the safety of our students.
The purpose of Volunteers in Public Schools is to support and enrich the educational experience of children and to involve our community in actively supporting public education.
Interested adults, age 21 and over, are eligible to apply. What are some of the volunteer activities?
Reading to students, assisting in computer labs, chaperoning field trips, making copies, preparing projects and bulletin boards, serving as a guest speaker, helping with small groups in the classroom, and assisting with book fairs, open houses, and teacher luncheons are some of the activities available to volunteers. When can I start?
Once the on-line application has been processed and the applicant’s background check is clear,
the campus(es) where the applicant wishes to volunteer will be notified and will, in turn, notify the applicant.
Each campus maintains a volunteer sign-in book in the front office. Volunteers must sign in and out for each visit. Volunteers will coordinate with office personnel as to their assignments while on campus.
If you are interested in volunteering, contact any campus or the SAISD Public Information Office at (325) 947-3838, ext. 524.
