The school received 300 names of veterans, which were placed on stars and hung in the Bowie hallways. Of the 300 names received, 50 of those were able to visit the campus.

The veterans were introduced on the "Patriots Live" morning show and led the pledges. Following the morning show, the veterans were escorted to each classroom by fourth grade student guides. Every student had an opportunity to meet a veteran. The veterans were from different branches of the armed services and fought in different wars, and their experiences provided a variety of interesting stories.

Bowie teachers prepared questions to ask the visitors, and some classes also presented thank you cards or letters. Others presented readers' theaters and dedicated poems.

The 3rd Graders performed their patriotic program during a breakfast provided by the teachers. The musical "American Celebration" provided a powerful and uplifting message of American history and the important role played by veterans.

The Lady Cats were originally looking at a goal of $5,000 this year, but Central Principal Bill Waters encouraged the team to "think big" and move the goal to $10,000. With the help of several campus organizations and proceeds from Rally t-shirt sales, the Lady Cats surpassed their goal. On October 21, the team presented the American Cancer Society with a check in the amount of $12,000, bringing the four-year donation total to over $23,000.
