Seniors Named National Merit Scholars
May 24, 2010
Central High School seniors Chelsea Green and Kate Jones have been named National Merit Scholars by the National Merit Scholarship Corporation.
National Merit Scholars are chosen from a group of finalists based on their abilities, skills, and accomplishments including the Finalist's academic record, information about the school's curricula and grading system, two sets of test scores, school official's written recommendation, information about the student's activities and leadership, and the Finalist's own essay. Only 8,200 students nationwide are named as National Merit Scholars each year.
The National Merit Scholarship Corporation is a not-for-profit organization established in 1955 to conduct the annual National Merit Program. The scholarships it provides are underwritten by some 500 businesses and higher education institutions that share NMSC's goal of honoring the nation's scholastic champions and encouraging the pursuit of academic excellence.
Chelsea Green is also the 2010 Salutatorian for Central High School and will attend Carnegie Mellon University in Pittsburg this fall.
Kate Jones will attend Texas A & M University this fall.
Congratulations, Chelsea and Kate, on this outstanding accomplishment.
