SAISD "Celebrates" New School Year
August 17, 2011
"Celebrate SAISD" was the theme of this year's back-to-school convocation which was held Tuesday, August 16 at 9:00 AM at the Foster Communications Coliseum. The event welcomed all of the district's employees to the new school year and provided an atmosphere of celebration honoring each campus and department.
Scott MacIntyre, this year's keynote speaker/performer, was a finalist in Season 8 of American Idol. A Marshall and Fulbright Scholar recipient, he was the first blind finalist in the American Idol competition. An accomplished pianist and vocalist, he holds a master's degree from the University of London and London's Royal College of Music. MacIntyre's spirit of optimism, powerful musical performances, and heartwarming stories brought inspiration to the SAISD audience. MacIntyre closed his presentation with his theme song, "Don't Stop Believing."
Other highlights of the morning included a combined Central High School and Lake View High School JROTC Color Guard as well as performances of patriotic music selections by combined high school bands and orchestras. Vocalist Logan Wright, an SAISD graduate and Baylor University student, sang "You Lift Me Up." Goodfellow AFB personnel were special guests of honor.
