May 11, 2012

San Angelo ISD has announced the promotion of three district administrators.

Mrs. Stephanie Free, Lake View High School Principal, has been named an Executive Director of Schools. She has 20 years' experience as an educator, twelve of which have been with SAISD. She also has experience as a middle school assistant principal as well as serving as principal of Austin Elementary and principal of the Central Freshman Campus before being named principal at Lake View. Superintendent Dr. Carol Ann Bonds stated, "Mrs. Free led an elementary campus to the Exemplary designation under TAKS as well as leading a secondary campus to the Recognized designation under TAKS. With her wealth of experience, she will be an outstanding mentor to principals in the district."

Lincoln Middle School Principal Mr. Monte Althaus, who has twenty-seven years of experience as an educator, will become principal of Lake View High School. Mr. Althaus, who has served at the top post at Lincoln for the past three years, came to San Angelo from Industrial ISD in Vanderbilt, Texas. During his years of service at Industrial ISD, he led the middle school campus to two Recognized ratings and one Exemplary rating.

Mr. Merl Brandon, currently an assistant principal at the Central Freshman Campus, will become principal of Lincoln Middle School. Prior to coming to San Angelo ISD, Mr. Brandon had served as the principal of Miles High School, leading that campus to become a Recognized high school for four consecutive years. He has been named the Region XV Principal of the Year three times, including in 2011, when he was also named State Principal of the Year.

These administrators will begin their new assignments July 1.
