SAISD Announces New Director of Communications

May 4, 2017

Mr. Derrick Jackson has been named the new Director of Communications for San Angelo ISD.  Mr. Jackson will take the place of Jamie Highsmith, who is retiring after thirty-five years in public education.  Mr. Jackson, currently the communications specialist in Frisco ISD, will relocate with his family to San Angelo in July.   His expertise in and exposure to high stakes public relations will serve him well in all facets of marketing and in continuing SAISD’s strong partnership with local media.  In addition to assisting with a successful 775 million dollar bond campaign for Frisco ISD in 2014, he was also responsible for mass communication in the district and all video production.   He has helped produce and edit multiple television shows including Sports Stars of Tomorrow, by Pat Summerall; Chevrolet’s Raceweek, hosted by Scott Murray; and Taste of the Southwest by Wolfgang Puck.  SAISD warmly welcomes Mr. Jackson!

In addition to the arrival of Mr. Jackson, SAISD is pleased to announce the following changes in administration:

Assistant Superintendent Shelly Hullihen will be promoted to the role of Deputy Superintendent of Administrative Services. In this role, Ms. Hullihen will assist Superintendent Dr. Carl Dethloff with the daily operations of the district.  With 10 years of experience in SAISD, Ms. Hullihen’s vast knowledge and expertise will be an asset in leading a district with 15,000 students.  SAISD looks forward to her leadership as Deputy Superintendent.

Dr. Jana Rueter, currently the Executive Director of Curriculum and Instruction, will transition to the role of Assistant Superintendent of Curriculum and Instruction.  Dr. Rueter will continue to oversee the district’s Teaching for Learning plan and implementation. Dr. Rueter is a proud graduate of the SAISD school system. SAISD looks forward to Dr. Rueter’s leadership in the capacity of Assistant Superintendent.
