Kids Eat-FREE! Program Provides Free Meals During July and August
June 28, 2018
Meals will be provided at no cost during the months of July and August at select feeding sites throughout San Angelo through the Kids Eat-FREE! program.
Kids Eat-FREE! works with churches and volunteers to provide consistent nutrition for children and families throughout the summer to keep them healthy and ready to begin school in the fall.
A total of 10 meal sites will be available from July 9 through August 10. For a complete list of sites, operating dates, and serving times, download this flyer. To find a meal site near you, call toll free 2-1-1, or visit www.texashunger.org for more information.
To participate, children may simply show up at a program site during the scheduled times - there are no applications or requirements. Family members accompanying children will also receive a meal at no cost. Fun and creative activities will be planned for the children at the meal sites. Activities will be provided by site coordinators and organizations such as Girl Scouts, Texas Agri-Life, Texas Parks and Wildlife, Kool Smiles, San Angelo Diabetes Coalition, and ADACC.
Kids Eat-FREE! is a project of the Tom Green County Hunger Initiative and the Texas Hunger Initiative. Since the program began in 2010, an average of over 20,000 children have been fed each summer in July and August. A total of over 160,000 lunch meals have been served since 2010. The program is privately funded by churches, nonprofit organizations, businesses, and many volunteers. Last summer, over 9,774 meals were provided to children and volunteers gave over 5,958 hours.
The Texas Hunger Initiative, a part of Baylor University, supports communities to assess local hunger, and evaluate barriers to food security in order to become a Hunger Free Community.
