SAISD Staff Recognized at District Celebration

May 6, 2019

SAISD faculty, staff, and administrators gathered Friday morning at San Angelo Stadium for a district-wide celebration honoring staff for their service and contributions to the district.

The celebration included recognition of employees for benchmark years of service. Service pins were awarded for 5, 10, 15, 20, 25, 30, 35, and 40 years of continuous service to SAISD.

Retiring staff members were also honored during the event. Retirees received either a certificate, a clock, or a watch depending on their years of service to the district. Assistant superintendent Farrah Gomez stated that these staff members represented more than 900 years of combined service.

Recognitions for other special awards were given during the event including the Teachers of the Year, Substitute Teachers of the Year, and Support Employees of the Year.

SAISD Elementary Teacher of the Year Stacy Fischer from Bowie Elementary and Secondary Teacher of the Year Kevin McSpadden from Central High School were introduced followed by three Substitute Teachers of the Year. Lili Delarosa was recognized as Elementary Substitute of the Year. Beverly Bowser was recognized as Middle School Substitute of the Year. And Kathleen Cumming was recognized as High School Substitute of the Year. The three substitute honorees were nominated by campus staff for their hard work, reliability, trustworthiness, and dedication.

New recognitions this year included two Support Employees of the Year. Della Kypfer, an Instructional Aide in the Special Education program at Crockett Elementary, was named the Instructional Support Employee of the Year and Karen Price, the principal's secretary at Glenn Middle School, was named the Non-Instructional Support Employee of the Year.

Other highlights of the ceremony included a presentation of colors by ROTC instructors, pledges and National Anthem led by SAISD staff members, and end-of-year videos highlighting photos of students and staff from the past school year.
