High School Start and Release Time Changes Announced for 2019-2020 School Year
May 29, 2019
Beginning with the 2019-2020 school year, the start and release times for high school will be adjusted by 30 minutes. Start times will be changed from 7:50 am to 8:20 am and ending times from 3:30 pm to 3:59 pm.
Research supports a later start time for high school students identifying that it can positively impact attendance and performance.
- A later start time puts high school drivers on Loop 306 with less morning traffic.
- A later start time puts high school drivers at lunch with less mid-day traffic.
- The district will be able to provide “Universal Breakfast” on all middle school and high school campuses providing all students with a free breakfast.
- A later start time allows for a little more sleep in the morning after long away trips.
This change ONLY impacts the bell schedules at Lake View High School, Central Freshman Campus, and Central High School. The middle school and elementary schedules will remain the same. Letters were sent home with incoming 9th through 12th graders about the time change. For additional information, please contact your campus office.
