February 28, 2020
San Angelo ISD Communications Specialist Jack Wilcox was honored with multiple state awards at the 2020 Texas School Public Relations Association (TSPRA) Conference including a Best of Category Award and seven Gold Star Awards. The awards were announced at TSPRA’s annual Star Awards Celebration held February 26, 2020 at the Omni Barton Creek Resort in Austin, Texas during the association’s 58th annual conference.
TSPRA’s annual Star Awards recognize outstanding communicators in school districts for their work in the areas of print, electronic, and visual communications. Awards are given in 48 main categories covering various media such as newsletters, programs, posters, writing, photography, video, web sites, and more. Larger, more comprehensive projects are entered in one of ten Crystal Commendation categories. Bronze, Silver, and Gold Stars are awarded in each category and judges review their highest scoring Gold Star winners and select a Best of Category winner in each category.
San Angelo ISD received the following awards:
Best of Category Award and Gold Star Award for "San Angelo Relays" video
Gold Star Award for "Lamar Elementary Reading Success" Video
Gold Star Award for "SAISD Celebrates World Read Aloud Day" Video
Gold Star Award for "Toys for Tots Delivers Joy to Head Start Students for Christmas" Video
Gold Star Award for "E-Mist Germ Fighting Technology" Video

SAISD was also a finalist for the Crystal Commendation Award in the "Photography Portfolio" category.
This year, 1,606 entries were submitted, which is the highest number of entries ever received since the Star Award program began. School districts are judged among three separate divisions: less than 10,000 students, 10,000 to 30,000 students, and more than 30,000 students. San Angelo ISD competes in the 10,000-30,000 Students division along with other districts such as Lubbock ISD, Allen ISD, Brazosport ISD, Grand Prairie ISD, Hurst-Euless-Bedford ISD, Coppell ISD, Waco ISD and more.
