Bond Update: Fannin Elementary – January 20, 2026

Architects from KFW Architects provided a bond construction update for Fannin Elementary during the January 20 Regular Board Meeting, sharing progress on site analysis and proposed design concepts for the campus.

Campus & Site Evaluation

  • The team reviewed the existing campus, which includes buildings constructed in 1966, 1997, and 2024.

  • Site conditions such as elevation changes, underground utilities, and a storm sewer easement were evaluated to guide building placement and overall campus planning.

  • These factors are helping shape design decisions to ensure efficient construction and long-term functionality.

Proposed Phased Approach

  • A new 10-classroom building is proposed on the east side of the campus.

  • A new cafeteria and kitchen are planned near the gym on the west side of campus.

  • This phased approach allows construction to occur while maintaining normal campus operations.

Existing Building Reuse

  • The original 1966 building was reviewed and found to be structurally sound.

  • Rather than replacing the building, architects outlined a potential future phase that would renovate and repurpose the space for administration, the library, health services, special programs, and staff collaboration areas.

  • This approach provides flexibility to address future campus needs while making use of an existing facility.

Cafeteria, Classroom, & Site Concepts

  • The proposed cafeteria design includes seating for large student groups, a stage, group restrooms, and kitchen and serving areas.

  • Food service layouts follow district standards currently used at other elementary campuses.

  • Classroom concepts focus on flexible instructional spaces with a mix of group and single-use restrooms.

  • Parking and student drop-off areas were considered as part of the overall site layout, with opportunities for refinement in future phases as needed.

Architects noted that the project is currently in the design development phase, with continued refinement underway to align the proposed improvements with campus needs and long-term district planning.
