COMMUNITY: Bond Projects Decided by Group Majority

The Facility Advisory Committee (FAC), comprised of a diverse group of 60 San Angelo community members and leaders with various perspectives, met seven times over four months. Their charge was to evaluate the district's facility needs and help produce the long-range facility plan and vision going forward. After reviewing the data, a recommendation was then made to the SAISD Board of Trustees in December.
I’d like to thank our board members and our FAC members for their time and efforts in shaping this bond package,” Superintendent Dr. Chris Moran said. “It’s been 17 years since our community made a significant investment in our schools. The 2025 Bond will address the primary needs of our students as identified by our community committee members.

The FAC studied the history of SAISD bond referendums and the current and future state of the district. They had discussions regarding district-wide facility ages, statuses, and needs. The 2025 Bond is the continuation of a 15-year district-wide master plan to transform its facilities to provide safe and modern learning spaces and tools for teaching and learning.
Moran says the committee process was grounded in the community. “The Facility Advisory Committee involved citizens from all across the community. Those individuals toured facilities and reviewed reports. They got a good look at how our district functions. And then they brought a recommendation to our Board of Trustees,” Moran said.
What the 2025 Bond voters will consider in May reflects the FAC’s recommendations. “The bond proposal really is a proposal from citizens in this community saying, ‘This is what we think would be best.’ And then the board gives it back to the community for a vote of yes or no. We want the community to learn the facts, educate themselves and vote their conscience,” Moran said.
