Reading Language Arts Material Guidance
San Angelo ISD considers literacy to be the integral base for all subject matter. Reading materials are selected with care and intentionality to provide appropriate, academically challenging, and applicable literary experiences for all students.
Instructional Materials
Reading Language Arts core instructional materials are adopted by the Texas State Board of Education and purchased by SAISD.
Elementary K-5: Amplify
Middle School 6-8: HMH
High school 9-12: Springboard
SAISD will review all instructional titles with guidance from the SAISD Reading Selection Content Committee. The District Instructional Title List along with information regarding the theme/topics/tags is available on the SAISD website.
Library Collections
Library Collections are maintained by the campus librarian who utilizes reviews from School Library Journal among other library reviewing sources.
Books from recommended lists such as the TLA Bluebonnet, Texas Topaz and ALA lists provide suggestions.
Classroom Collections
Book selections are made by individual teachers and campuses.
Classroom libraries should include:
- age-appropriate books
- multiple reading levels
- books which are relative to students' lives
- multiple interests/genres
Teachers use review websites, collaborate across grade levels, and consult librarians and the SAISD Curriculum & Instruction team for assistance.
