SAISD Counselor Core Beliefs

The Guidance and Counseling Department for the San Angelo Independent School District is an integral part of the complete education process. Our department strives to provide a systematic approach to assist and empower all students in acquiring the skills needed to be academically successful and college/career ready, while also providing assistance for those in need of special services. SAISD school counselors work collaboratively with school staff, students, parents and the community to plan, implement and evaluate a developmental counseling program Our primary goal as is to support the social, emotional, academic and career growth and development for all students. The Guidance and Counseling program shall consist of:

A Guidance Curriculum to help students develop social and academic skills needed to be successful in school and beyond.

A Responsive Services component to intervene on behalf of any student whose immediate personal concerns or problems place the student’s educational, personal, social or career development at risk.

An Individual Planning system to guide students as they make social, emotional and academic goals. Counselors aide students in monitoring progress, and work in conjunction with students, teachers and parents to build academic plans based on interests and career objectives.

Indirect Student Services to support the efforts of teachers, staff, parents and the community in promoting the personal, social, educational and career development of all students

SAISD Counselors hold a professional certificate in School Guidance and Counseling issued by the Texas Education Agency. Our counselors are dedicated and ethical professionals, who work diligently to grow students by meeting with them through whole class guidance, small group sessions, and individually. Our purpose is to build positive relationships, help create a safe and inviting environment for students and parents, and collaborate with all stakeholder for the benefit of students.
