District of Innovation
A District of Innovation is a concept passed by the 84th Legislative Session in House Bill 1842, effective immediately, that gives traditional independent school districts additional flexibilities such as:
- Greater Local Control as the decision makers over the educational and instructional model for students
- Increased Freedom and Flexibility with accountability, relative to state mandates that govern educational programming
- Empowerment to be Innovative and Think Differently
To access these flexibilities, a school district must adopt an innovation plan, as set forth in Texas Education Code chapter 12A.
