Leading organizations and employers want creative colleagues who can collaborate, think critically, and communicate well. In San Angelo ISD, our goal is to present graduates who will find postsecondary success, because we focus on building these important skills, as well as a firm foundation for literacy, math, history and science.

SAISD is committed to our mission of engaging all students in a relevant and inspiring education that produces future ready graduates. We are engaged with community members, parents, civic leaders, teachers, and business owners to create an accountability system that is reflective of the attributes needed to be successful in today’s world.

We believe the time is now to fully value the hopes and dreams of each child, to remove whatever barriers exist in obtaining them, and to never again allow a child to be treated as a test score. We will be accountable for each child’s future by honoring their strengths and supporting their needs while improving the system that empowers them.

We will work diligently to enhance student learning and reduce achievement gaps, and continue to celebrate all the ways students are smart.

Celebrating All the Ways Students Are Smart

Career and Technical Education

Career and Technical Education courses allow students to use academic knowledge and problem solving skills while acquiring occupationally specific skills as part of their high school curriculum. Career and Tech students earn industry-recognized certifications and dual credit for college.

The West Texas Training Center offers a state-of-the-art training facility for a variety of Career and Technical programs. Robotics students explore programming in the robotic and automation industry, learning real-world skills for the 21st Century workplace.

Culinary Arts programs at both Central and Lake View High Schools provide students with a taste of a career in cooking. Students learn about nutrition, cooking techniques, seasonings and flavorings, safety and sanitation principles and food-service career opportunities.

STEM Labs

STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics) labs offer students hands-on, collaborative learning experiences that challenge students to think critically through various design challenges.

Students can study various career pathways such as information technology, construction, and health sciences - preparing them for success in today’s world.

In Stem labs, students have the opportunity to explore subjects such as applied engineering and flight technology in hands-on, meaningful ways.

Fine Arts and Performing Arts

SAISD student musicians are continually recognized for their achievements, with multiple All-State music students and dozens of students qualifying for UIL State solo and ensemble competitions.

Mariachi at both the middle school and high school levels is about more than just learning to play an instrument. Students from all backgrounds learn about the Mexican culture and how to translate their emotions into music and to perform with confidence.

The study of and participation in the fine arts is a key component in improving learning throughout all academic areas. High school students in SAISD can take art classes in areas such as drawing, painting, sculpture, studio art, ceramics, and floral design.

Athletic Programs

Research shows that students who participate in extra-curricular activities have higher grade point averages, better attendance rates, and stronger graduation rates. Participating in team sports also improves fitness, and develops teamwork, time management, and leadership skills.

SAISD has many award winning athletics programs, like the Central High School swim team. The Bobcats have won 9 consecutive district titles and 13 of the last 15 titles and the Lady Cats have won 10 of the last 13 district titles.

San Angelo ISD is home to multiple state and nationally ranked athletic programs. The Central High School boys and girls gymnastics teams have more than a dozen state championship titles combined.
