San Angelo ISD Holds Annual TRIYS Symposium for Gifted and Talented Students

San Angelo ISD elementary students in our Gifted and Talented (GT) program presented their months-long research project of their own selection as part of this year's Dr. Carol Ann Bonds Texas Research Institute for Young Scholars (TRIYS) Symposium in January, February and March. The TRIYS Symposium was started by former SAISD Superintendent Dr. Bonds to give GT students the opportunity to do research and develop the attributes within the SAISD Learner Profile of communication, collaboration, critical thinking and creation.

San Angelo ISD Career and Technical Education Students Attend Symposium Hosted by Reece Albert and CSA Materials

San Angelo ISD is proud to announce a partnership with Reece Albert and CSA Materials to offer an exclusive opportunity for our Career and Technical Education (CTE) students in welding, agriculture mechanics, automotive technology, and construction pathways. The 2-day symposium focused on exposing students to careers paths available to them after high school graduation in the heavy construction and mining industries right here in San Angelo.

Teacher shows elementary students how to dust for fingerprints

Santa Rita Elementary 5th grade students had the unique opportunity to see future-ready courses available to them in high school through a tour of the Career and Technical Education (CTE) classes at Central High School and the West Texas Training Center (WTTC) as part of Santa Rita’s annual career day called the CTE World Tour. A new take on elementary career days, the student received a ticket and a passport to explore San Angelo ISD CTE pathways of study ranging from engineering to culinary arts to welding and everything in between.

The boardroom at the San Angelo ISD Administration Building is filled with the excited sounds of over 90 San Angelo ISD 5th grade students as they engage in a tournament of a cybersecurity based card game called Cyber Threat Protector. Cyber Threat Protector is a fun and engaging way for our younger students to learn about cybersecurity and practice protecting assets from hackers and viruses by utilizing defenses. 

SAISD Celebrates our 4 All-State Musicians

San Angelo ISD proudly celebrates four students from Central High School and Lake View High School who reached the highest level a high school musician can achieve through the Texas Music Educators Association (TMEA) by earning the distinguished honor of TMEA All-State in band, mariachi, and choir. Congratulations to Arick Brooks, CHS senior, All-State Mixed Choir, tenor; Heidi Bundick, LVHS senior, All-State Band, double bass; Isaac Carrales-Rodriguez, LVHS junior, All-State Mariachi, trumpet; and Mia Wilcox, CHS senior, All-State Band, flute.

This January, San Angelo ISD FFA and 4-H students competed in the annual San Angelo ISD Stock Show. Students from elementary through high school participated in this year’s show exhibiting pigs, lambs, goats, rabbits and chickens. We commend the students for the months of hard work they devote to preparing their animals for exhibition in these shows.

How many pencils can you stick in a plastic bag before it pops? Does washing your hands with soap or using hand sanitizer kill more germs? Why don’t certain liquids mix together when added to a jar? How high can a “rubber egg” bounce? Students at Santa Rita Elementary spent the month of November researching and answering these questions and more for the school science fair.
