Nominations Open for 2027 H-E-B Excellence in Education Awards

Nominations are now open for the 2027 H-E-B Excellence in Education Awards, and San Angelo ISD encourages students, families and community members to nominate outstanding educators. The nomination form is quick and easy to complete and is available at https://heblovesteachers.com/nominate/. 

The H-E-B Excellence in Education Teacher Award recognizes educators who demonstrate passion for teaching, creativity and innovation in the classroom, and a commitment to professional growth. The Principal Award honors campus leaders who excel in instructional leadership, school culture and community engagement. The Counselor Award recognizes school counselors who create safe, supportive and caring environments while helping students achieve success.

Created in 2002, the H-E-B Excellence in Education Awards celebrate outstanding public school professionals across Texas and recognize the incredible difference they make in the lives of students and their communities. Since the program began, H-E-B has awarded nearly $15 million to exceptional teachers, counselors, principals, school boards, school districts and early childhood education centers throughout the state.

San Angelo ISD has experienced that recognition firsthand. In 2024, Veronica Stapper, a second-grade teacher at Glenmore Elementary, was named the H-E-B Excellence in Education Lifetime Achievement Winner. After being selected as one of five statewide finalists in the Lifetime Achievement category, she received a $1,000 personal award and a $1,000 grant for Glenmore Elementary. As the statewide winner, Mrs. Stapper was awarded $25,000, and Glenmore Elementary received an additional $25,000 grant.
