SAISD Reduces Energy Use by 30 Percent and Extends Energy Conservation Partnership with Cenergistic

Thanks in part to a 30 percent reduction in energy use, San Angelo ISD has announced it will extend its energy conservation program with Cenergistic, a nationwide energy optimization company.

Since the program’s inception in December 2014, SAISD has managed to significantly cut its utility spending and create a culture of sustainability among students and staff.

“The continued success of this program is a major reason for our decision to renew,” said SAISD Assistant Superintendent Dr. Jeff Bright. “Seeing such massive reductions in both utility bills and energy consumption allows us to free up funding and pave the way as a leader in sustainability.”

SAISD personnel work closely with Cenergistic engineers, experts and Energy Specialists to audit and optimize energy-using systems across the district to achieve peak efficiency. The Specialists track energy consumption at all facilities to identify and correct areas that need immediate attention. Savings are calculated using third-party energy-accounting software.

In the six years since implementation, the carbon emissions avoided from the energy program equate to approximately 69 million miles driven or the energy use of 9,900 houses in a year. Additionally, 25 district buildings have performed well enough against their national peers to gain ENERGY STAR® certification.
