SAISD’s Manos a la Obra Strengthens Family Connections Through Culture, Resources and Support

SAISD’s Manos a la Obra Strengthens Family Connections Through Culture, Resources and Support

San Angelo ISD proudly hosted Manos a la Obra, a free and family-friendly community resource night on April 24 at Bradford Elementary School. The event welcomed SAISD emergent bilingual students and their families for an evening filled with cultural celebration, valuable community resources and hands-on support.

Designed to strengthen connections between families, schools and the broader San Angelo community, the event featured information about SAISD’s bilingual program, enrollment support for the 2026–2027 school year, and a variety of engaging activities for all ages.

“Manos a la Obra is an annual celebration of culture and learning – two core priorities of the bilingual magnet program at Bradford Elementary,” said Angela Pidgeon, SAISD Director of Differentiated Instruction & Special Populations. “Manos a la Obra created meaningful opportunities for families to connect, learn, and engage with a community that is committed to supporting them as they make San Angelo their home.”

Families had the opportunity to explore and connect with a wide range of community resources and support services. The district’s Emergent Bilingual Department and Title III program provided students with books in both Spanish and English to take home, in support of family literacy. Inside the cafeteria, district staff assisted families with registration for the upcoming school year and answered questions.

More than 80 attendees enjoyed snacks and refreshments; free books and giveaways, and vibrant performances by Bradford Elementary’s “Danzantes de Corazón” dance team and Lincoln Middle School Mariachi.

Outside, Bradford’s parking lot transformed into an “Outdoor Resource Hub,” where 33 community partners and student organizations shared information, distributed resources, played games and connected with families. H-E-Buddy was also on hand, adding to the excitement by greeting students and posing for photos.

“San Angelo ISD is grateful for its bilingual families and for the continued support of the broader SAISD community," Ms. Pigeon said. "Their involvement helps ensure the ongoing growth and success of this annual event.”

SAISD extends our appreciation to the community partners and organizations who helped make the evening both meaningful and memorable by providing resources, information and fun giveaways, including children’s books in English and Spanish.
