Digital Resources and Citizenship
SAISD believes technology is a powerful tool that enhances learning and enables students to access a vast amount of academic resources. The District’s goal is to increase staff and student access to digital tools and facilitate immediate access to technology-based information in much the same way students use pen and paper.
Access to the District’s technology resources is a privilege, not a right. Each student and staff member has the responsibility to understand the guidelines governing the use of the District’s technology resources and to comply with those principles. The District’s regulations and policies outlining the use of technology may be found on the SAISD website.
Libraries and Digital Resources
The SAISD libraries partner with the administration and staff to ensure our 21st Century Learners become proficient in information literacy and digital citizenship. The library programs are integral in promoting digital literacy by:
- Providing access to computer hardware
- Teaching and advising students to research using web-based digital resources
- Helping students use productivity applications
Each campus library is also responsible for making digital resources available 24/7. Available digital tools vary by campus. Some campuses provide e-books and other resources that complement the campus curriculum. Most campuses purchase subscriptions for databases and/or encyclopedias through TexQuest, the statewide program that provides anytime, anywhere access to high quality, authoritative digital resources to all educators, students, and students’ immediate families. TexQuest is funded in part by appropriations from the Texas State Legislature and is administered by the Texas State Library and Archives Commission with support from the Education Service Center, Region 20.
